How to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test? "What you can do" before and on the day of the exam

The Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is held twice a year in Japan in July and December. There are 5 exam levels, from N1 to N5, in order from the most difficult one. All international students taking the exam say that "reading comprehension" is the most difficult. Because I have to read a lot of long sentences. And some people find it difficult to "listen". This is because many people are not good at listening. Some of you may not be able to remember "character vocabulary (kanji and words)". This column will give you advice on how to study character vocabulary (Chinese characters and words) and how to do "reading" and "listening" before and during the exam.

For character vocabulary (words and kanji), see 3 example sentences or make an example sentence

Rather than memorizing Chinese characters and words (vocabulary) one by one, it is better to see and make many example sentences. If you want to learn one Chinese character or word, look at three or more slightly longer example sentences.

Remembering 3 or more example sentences is also useful for reading and listening comprehension exams

The Japanese Language Proficiency Test has problems with sentences. Once you get used to the sentences, you will be able to read them faster in the exam. The faster you can read the sentence, the faster you will know the answer to the question.

Therefore,It is recommended that you make an example sentence yourself and have someone who understands Japanese check it.For example, the N3 word "early" can be used to create the following example sentences.

·todayEarlyI wonder if I can go back to.

EarlyYou should prepare for it.

・ ApplyAs soon as possibleTo.

EarlyI'd be more saved in that time.

If you have difficulty memorizing new Chinese characters or words, write an example sentence in a notebook or enter it in a smartphone app so that you can see the sentence many times. You can listen to the example sentences by sound with the voice app. Remember a lot of example sentences in a way that is easy to remember. And if you make an example sentence with your friend, you can see 3 kinds of example sentences in "textbook example sentence + your own example sentence + friend's example sentence".

ButIt's best not to learn new Chinese characters or words one week before the Japanese Language Proficiency Test. Please make it a review time from one week before the exam. It's a waste to forget the words you studied hard. Double-check the books and apps you used to study and don't forget until the time of the exam.

"How to use time" is important for reading comprehension, and "concentration" is important for listening comprehension.

"Reading" and "listening" in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test are difficult because there are many problems. In fact, one of the reasons why "reading" and "listening" are difficult is that there are many problems. Obviously, if you have a lot of problems, you will get tired during the exam. What should I do?

Reading comprehension scores increase in the order of "first → last"

As for the "reading comprehension" problem, the first page is a short sentence, and the sentence becomes longer as you proceed. and,The first page has the lowest score and the problem on the last page has the highest score.

SoAt the time of the reading comprehension test, you can solve the problem with a high score when you are not tired yet by starting from the "question of the" notice "on the last page".This method is especially recommended for those who have taken the exam more than once (even those who have taken the practice exam more than once).
And if you think "this sentence is confusing" during the exam, let's do that question later. First, let's solve the problem of "easy-to-understand sentences".

There is one caveat here. The above method is easy to make a mistake in marking.Even if you know the answer to the question, you will not get points if you make a mistake in the mark. Be careful and mark it.

Is "sleeping well the day before" the most important thing for listening?

From 2 to 3 days before the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, adjust your part-time job schedule so that you can "sleep well". In fact, many seniors who took the Japanese Language Proficiency Test said, "I had a part-time job until late at night the day before the test. I was sleepy during listening time and couldn't hear the problem well." .. I studied hard until the day of the exam, but this is very disappointing.

You can only listen to listening questions once, so be sure to sleep well a couple of days in advance so you don't get sleepy on the day of the exam. The listening test is long, so I'm very tired.Your physical condition on the day of the exam will determine the outcome of the exam. The exam is only twice a year, so please do your best by getting rid of your body and remembering what you have studied by the day of the exam.

Finally: It's okay if you can answer the exam 60% correctly!

The Japanese Language Proficiency Test is a test with a perfect score of 180 points, but it is not a test that requires a score of 180 points. You can pass any level from N1 to N5 with a 40% mistake.

When studying for the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, you may have words or kanji that you cannot remember, grammar that you make a mistake, or reading / listening comprehension problems that you do not understand. But don't give up. It's okay to make a mistake in 40%. You can pass by increasing the number of questions you can do one by one.
