School characteristics

Foster human resources that can contribute to the international community in a privileged environment
The history of Tenri University begins in 1925 with the establishment of Tenri Foreign Language School. Currently, there are 5 faculties, Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Letters, Faculty of International Studies, Faculty of Physical Education and Faculty of Medicine, and 3 Graduate Schools. In April 2024, we plan to reorganize the five faculties into four faculties (Faculty of Humanities, International Studies, Physical Education, and Medical Sciences)*.
The campus is located in the northeastern part of the Nara Basin, the birthplace of Japan's ancient nation, and has a beautiful natural environment, Japan's oldest historical sites, many shrines and temples, and many tourists from overseas. Osaka and Kyoto can be reached in 1 hour by train, and Kobe can be reached in 1 hour and 40 minutes. Tenri University has exchange agreements with 53 universities and 3 institutions in 24 countries (regions) around the world, and has branch schools in New York and Paris. With the goal of "opening the way to the world for all students", we actively support overseas study and accept international students. In the Japanese Studies Course, which accepts international students from all over the world, students learn a wide range of Japanese culture and society in addition to thorough Japanese language education, and also focus on regional studies of Nara. In a privileged environment, we are conducting heart-to-heart education with the goal of developing human resources who can serve as a bridge between their home country and Japan.

[Professor's Voice]
Name: Tomohiro Serizawa, Faculty of International Studies, Department of Japanese Studies (for international students) *Professor
This department is characterized by three pillars. One is Japanese language education that can be learned from any level in a small class. The second is a curriculum that allows students to learn a wide range of Japanese culture and society. The third is "narralogy" to learn about Nara in the age of globalization. Furthermore, there is also a Japanese teacher training course.

*Planning to install in 2024 (Details are tentative and subject to change.)
